MICHAEL SHIELDS, CCIM, CCRM Apartment / Investment Broker, Managing Director
Michael Shields has been an apartment/investment broker, specializing in representing principals in the purchase and sale of multifamily properties in Silicon Valley since 2002. His California Multifamily and Commercial Real Estate Brokerage specializes in the buying and selling of multifamily properties in the 4–100 units range, and medical office buildings. Michael also assists owners with 1031 exchanges into larger properties, triple-net leased investments, or reinvestment into non-real property investments through affiliations with reputable financial planners. He also is an apartment building owner and investor, with a focus on refurbishing older properties. He also provides operational consulting to owners interested in increasing value, revenue, and decreasing operational problems. Michael also provides market research and analysis for developers, as well as presentations to local government, real estate agents, and principals (owner/investors).

Prior to founding Silicon Valley Multifamily Group, which is a California Multifamily and Commercial Real Estate Brokerage, Michael served as a Senior Investment Advisor at Sperry Van Ness, a nationwide commercial brokerage firm, and as an Investment Broker at Coldwell Banker Commercial. During his time with Coldwell Banker Commercial, he was consistently named to the President’s Circle for providing excellent service to clientele.
He has more than 30 years of business experience, including more than 20 years as a real estate broker and more than 15 in high-technology, corporate marketing, serving in positions both tactical and strategic in nature. In this marketing career prior to real estate, Michael served in various marketing management capacities both technical and promotional in nature for companies such as Flextronics International, Fujitsu Software, Sensormatic Electronics, and Frost & Sullivan Market Research.
During this time, he was responsible for the marketing of companies and products to investors and customers. As a result, his approach to selling properties has a heavy emphasis on proactive marketing.
Michael is a Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM), a Certified California Residential Manager (CCRM), and a member of numerous organizations including the California Apartment Association (CAA), the National Association of REALTORS–Commercial Member (NAR), and the California and Santa Clara Association of Realtors (SCCAOR).
He is also a professionally trained public speaker and has given presentations at multifamily expositions as well as to Realtors and other professionals within the industry. Michael publishes a newsletter on the Silicon Valley Multifamily Market and has written articles for publications such as Multifamily Executive and Apartment Management Magazine.
He also invests in real estate, including multifamily properties, and has served as the president of an HOA for a multimillion dollar complex in Silicon Valley. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing and an Associate in Arts in Liberal Arts. To earn the CCIM designation, Shields completed the graduate-level program in the financial analysis of commercial investment real estate, met the organization’s requirements for qualifying experience, and passed the 6-hour certification examination sponsored by the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM). The CCIM designation is held by less than 1% of real estate agents nationwide.
REBECCA NEVAREZ, CCRM Property Manager / Office Manager / Transaction Coordinator / Licensed Real Estate Agent
Rebecca Nevarez serves as the firm’s Property Manager, Escrow Coordinator, and Office Manager. She is responsible for overseeing the physical aspects of property management, interacting with tenants and owners, leasing units, and supervising repairs for our clients, and our own investments.
As a licensed real estate agent, she assists the firm’s brokers and agents in the marketing of multifamily properties and handles the residential properties (such as single-family homes) that our clients ask us to sell. Rebecca also manages the transactions for the Managing Broker, ensuring that all terms of the agreements are met and schedules are adhered to.
With more than 25 years of experience in a variety of real estate positions, Rebecca is aptly suited to ensure that every transaction is completed on time and as specified.
